Melvin K. Ah Lo, 75, of Hilo died Aug. 11 at his residence. Born in Hilo, he was a retired Hawaiian Airlines cargo agent and a veteran of the U.S. Army. Visitation 5-6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 13, at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Funeral Service 6 p.m. Face masks and social distancing required. Military honors 9 a.m. Monday, Sept. 14, at the East Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2 pavilion, followed by private burial. Survived by companion, Joyce Madamba of Hilo; four children, Melvin Troy (Kanoe) Ah Lo of Waimea, Melissa (Jeremy) Ujano and Nadine Camacho of Hilo, Alissa Iida of Las Vegas; three siblings, Kenneth Ah Lo, Ethel Ah Lo and Pat Ah Lo of Hilo; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins. Alexander Chun Ako Jr., 86, of Kealakekua died Aug. 22 at his residence. Born in Honolulu, he was a truck driver for Kona Transportation Company, P.K. Onaga Trucking and Richard Lee Trucking Co., a manager at Midas Mufflers, a member of Lanakila Congregational Church, gardener and koa wood worker. Private services will be held. Survived by his wife, Abbie Ako of Kealakekua; sons, Daniel (Leslie) Ako of Kealakekua, Alexander (Candice) Ako, III of Redwood City, Calif., Eric Ako of Kailua-Kona; daughter, Lisa (Ronnie) Aukai of Kailua-Kona; brother, Harold (Eleanor) Ako of Honolulu; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one nephew; and cousins. Gary Haruo Jenkins, 64, of Holualoa died July 17. Born in Kealakekua, he was a handler for Aloha Air Cargo. Services are pending. Virgelio “Bones”, “L’s” Pasalo Licoan, 63, of Kukui Village Camp, Ookala, died Aug. 12 at The Queen’s Medical Center on Oahu. He was born in Hilo. Private services to be held at a later date. Theanne Anela Mehau, 65, of Waimea died Aug. 16 at The Queens Medical Center in Honolulu. Born in Honolulu, she was a 1973 graduate of Kamehameha Schools, worked for Western Airlines and Delta Airlines and enjoyed traveling. Private services held. Felix Achuela Padamada Jr., 58, of Keaau died July 17 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Paoay, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, he was a papaya farmer and an employee for Ganir and Company Pacific Rim Commercial Services, a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Keaau and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo and a former member of Pearl of the Orient Association of Hawaii, the Big Island chapter of the Filipino Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii and Hawaii County Filipino Community Council. Visitation 5-6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, at Dodo Mortuary Chapel, Hilo. Wake service at 6 p.m. Visitation again 8-8:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11, at the mortuary. Funeral Mass 9:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hilo. Burial to follow at Homelani Memorial Park, Lehua Section. Seating limited. Masks and social distancing required. Casual attire.
