The Hawaii Police Department advises residents to be cautious of an uptick in mail theft.

According to a police notification Tuesday, there has been an increased number of reports of stolen incoming and outgoing mail from residential mailboxes in recent weeks.

Residents are urged to install locks on their mailboxes and drop off outgoing mail through secure post boxes.

Any victim of mail theft or anyone who sees suspicious activity is encouraged to call the police nonemergency line at 935-3311.
