In anticipation of Hurricane Douglas, the county Department of Public Works announced Thursday that public access to Waipio Valley will be closed from 7 a.m. Saturday until further notice.

Special duty officers and Waipio Valley rangers will be on site at the top of the road leading into the valley to ensure access is restricted to local traffic only (residents, land owners and farmers). Local traffic will be allowed to pass through a single-vehicle at a time.

The county thanks the community for its cooperation in efforts to keep everyone safe as the storm approaches.
