Police arrest 12 for DUI

During the week of July 6-July 12, 2020, Hawaii Island police arrested 12 motorists for DUI. Two of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident and four drivers were younger than 21.

The numbers of arrests by district were: Kona, five; South Hilo and South Kohala, three each; and Puna, one.

So far this year, there have been 461 DUI arrests compared to 597 during the same period last year a decrease of 22.8%.

There have been 420 major accidents so far this year compared to 501 during the same period last year, a decrease of 16.2%.

To date, there have been 10 official traffic fatalities, compared to 13 fatalities for the same time last year, a decrease of 23.1%.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide, police said.
