Canine friends unsafe?
It’s great to have some of our local stores open. It’s good to see a sign that states, “No Mask, No Enter.”
I think Hilo is doing great with wearing masks and keeping six feet apart and using anti-bacterial hand soap. But, one thing that bugs me big time is when stores of numerous types are letting dogs on leashes into the stores.
So many employees hand-clean every inch of where customers walk. Sorry, even if the dogs wore a mask, what about their feet and fur? Germs, bugs, etc.
Nothing personal, but it just doesn’t seem right. We’re all in this together, let’s kokua each other. Mahalo plenty.

‘Something is not right’
“Antifa, short for anti-fascists, is an umbrella term for far-left-leaning militant groups that resist neo-Nazis and white supremacists at demonstrations.”
So says the Honolulu Star Advertiser and countless other mainstream media outlets.
The problem is, when I search for documentation of antifa on the web, all I find is photographs of masked mobs of white anarchists dressed in black setting fires, smashing windows and trying to kill people with crude weapons.
I want to know who is suppressing the truth and removing evidence of antifa resisting neo-Nazis and white supremacists at demonstrations.
Who are all these masked white people dressed in black claiming to be antifa that are wrecking communities, simply because they can?
Are they impostors? Why does the real antifa not challenge them? Could our wise news media get something so totally wrong?
I do not believe it. Something is not right here.
This is all so terribly confusing.

Make it a holiday
Only three states have not yet made Juneteenth a holiday: North and South Dakota and Hawaii.
We serve as an example of racial healing to the world in another respect: Horrible racists came here from a foreign country and their descendants literally enslaved the Hawaiian people and forced upon them a government they fought for 14 years to reject.
But in time we mingled, and now no one asks if your ancestors were real Hawaiians or those awful oppressive Tahitians who killed and enslaved the Hawaiian people — we just accept everyone as living together for a good future.
Other places hold a grudge; we do not. So let’s also acknowledge Juneteenth by making it a holiday. Better late than never.

Important letter
Having been a reader of Your Views for decades, Mr. Tom Beach’s letter of June 17 (“Waves of COVID-19”) is the most cogent and important I’ve ever read.
Gov. David Ige, please read it and respond. If you disagree, please explain why.
If you agree, please explain why Hawaii is doing exactly the opposite of what Mr. Beach is recommending — with almost certainly lethal consequences for our state.
I think the citizens of Hawaii deserve a response, governor.
