During the week of June 15-21, Hawaii Island police arrested 12 motorists for DUI. One of the drivers was involved in a traffic accident and one was younger than 21.
The numbers of arrests by district were: Puna, six; Kona, South Hilo and South Kohala, two each.
So far this year, there have been 402 DUI arrests compared to 544 during the same period last year, a decrease of 26.1%.
There have been 381 major accidents so far this year compared to 439 during the same period last year, a decrease of 13.2%.
To date, there have been 10 official traffic fatalities, one fewer than the 11 at this time last year, a decrease of 9.1%.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide, police said.
