Police ID’d a man killed Monday in a collision between a tractor-trailer truck and the sport-utility vehicle he was driving as 65-year-old Charles K. Makanani Jr. of Kona.
The collision occurred at about 10:13 a.m. Monday at the intersection of Daniel K. Inouye Highway and Kaumana Drive in Hilo.
Makanani’s death is the ninth official traffic fatality of 2020, the same number as at this time last year.
