Due to COVID-19 concerns, the county Department of Environmental Management’s Solid Waste Division continues to suspend some programs and services.
Electronic device recycling collection has been suspended, as has green waste collection at the Keaau and Volcano transfer stations.
Scrap metal and white goods collection is suspended at all county transfer stations.
Green waste collection is still available 7 a.m.-4:15 p.m. seven days a week at the East Hawaii Organics Facility; 7 a.m.-4:15 p.m. Monday-Saturday at the West Hawaii Organics Facility; 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday, Wednesday and Saturday at the Kealakehe, Waimea and Pahoa transfer stations; and 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday, Tuesday and Friday at the Ke‘ei transfer station.
Residents should use other service providers or hold onto their items until collections resume.
Additionally, East Hawaii Regional Sort Station services are closed to businesses hauling commercially-generated waste loads larger than five cubic yards until June 30.
A load that size will fit in a standard pickup truck with an eight-foot long bed filled to the top of the cab.
The sort station located at the Hilo landfill, will continue to accept businesses hauling residentially generated waste loads of less than five cubic yards from 7 a.m.-4:15 p.m. daily.
