15 DUI arrests from May 11-17

During the week of May 11-17, Hawaii Island Police arrested 15 motorists for DUI. Two of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident; two were younger than 21.

The numbers of arrests by district were: Puna, six; South Hilo, four; Kona, three; and South Kohala, two.

As of the end of that week, there had been 330 DUI arrests compared to 436 during the same period last year, a decrease of 24.3%.

There had been 305 major accidents compared to 366 during the same period last year, a decrease of 16.7%.

And there had been eight official traffic fatalities compared to six during the same time period last year, a 33.3% increase.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide, police said.
