Dr. Walter Franklin Hughes, 98, of Keaau died April 26 at home. Born in Santa Barbara, Calif., he was a retired veterinarian and avian pathologist for Kimberchiks, docent for Collings Foundation’s “Wings of Freedom” tour, member of the Peter Tam Hoy Tai Chi group, B-24 Bomber pilot in U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and grand marshal in Hilo Veterans Day Parade.
