Police are investigating the discovery of a body Monday afternoon near Honokaa.

The body was discovered by local hunters in the Nienie forest, located off Highway 240.

Police say that about 5 p.m. Monday, two men walked into the Honokaa Police Station and reported the discovery of the body in the forest just outside town. It appeared the body — which was in an advanced state of decomposition had been there, near a campsite, for several months.

An autopsy will be conducted later this week, police said, and foul play isn’t suspected.

The identity of the victim is being withheld pending identification and notification of next of kin.
