A 53-year-old Puna man was charged with second-degree attempted murder after a domestic incident Monday.

Ricky Lee Bowen was charged after Puna patrol officers responded to a report of a physical altercation between a man and a woman at a Melekule Street residence in the Orchidland subdivision.

Officers found a 51-year-old woman with injuries to her hand and jaw, who told police that she was assaulted and that the perpetrator fired a gun at her as she fled from her residence.

The victim was not injured by the gunshots and declined medical treatment. Bowen was taken into custody without incident.

He remains in custody. Bowen’s bail was set at $324,000.

He faces charges of second-degree attempted murder, first-degree terroristic threatening, domestic abuse by strangulation, carrying or using a firearm in the commission of a felony, interference with reporting an emergency or crime, failure to register a firearm and misdemeanor domestic abuse.

Bowen’s initial hearing is scheduled for today in Hilo District Court.
