The United States passed China today for the number of deaths caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The U.S. had 3,606 deaths from the coronavirus as of 11 a.m. HST, according to the Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center.
China, which is where the outbreak began, had 3,309 deaths. Italy has recorded the most deaths of any nation, 12,428.
Across the U.S., there were 181,009 confirmed cases this morning, followed by Italy (105,792), Spain (94,417), China (82,278) and Germany (70,985).
On March 1, there were 98 confirmed cases in the U.S. On March 15, there were about 4,600 cases.
Globally, there were 846,156 cases in 180 nations and territories this morning.
In Hawaii, there were 204 confirmed coronavirus cases as of Monday. On the Big Island, 17 people have tested positive, with five having recovered. The remaining 12 are quarantined at home with Department of Health monitoring.
More than 176,000 people worldwide have recovered from the virus, including 6,000 in the U.S.
