Police have arrested a 53-year-old man Keaau man after a violent domestic incident Monday afternoon in in Puna.

At 2:54 p.m., Puna patrol officers responded to a report of an injured woman after a domestic incident at a Melekule Street home in Orchidland Estates subdivision.

Arriving officers found a 51-year-old woman with injuries to her hand and jaw. The woman told police she was assaulted by her spouse, and said he fired a gun at her as she ran from the home. The woman, who wasn’t hit by the gunfire, refused medical treatment.

Police arrested 53-year-old Rick Bowen on suspicion of attempted second-degree murder, domestic abuse aggravated by strangulation, first-degree terroristic threatening and interfering with the report of an emergency.

Police say a search warrant is being obtained for the home, and Bowen remains in custody while detectives continue to investigate.
