The United States now has more COVID-19 cases than any other nation.

There were 82,404 confirmed cases in the U.S. today just before noon HST, according to the Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center.

The U.S. has now passed China (81,782) for the highest number of cases.

The U.S. also has overtaken Italy (80,589), which had been the hardest-hit nation outside of China. Italy has had more than 8,000 deaths due to the virus.

In the U.S., more than 1,000 people have died after being infected.

Meanwhile, the number of confirmed cases globally has passed the half-million mark.

There were 523,163 coronavirus cases as of this morning, according to Johns Hopkins.

Worldwide, more than 122,000 people have recovered from the virus.
