LIFE DRAWING WITH THE HILO ARTISTS HUI

Details: Open to all. Children younger than 18 years old must provide permission from a parent to attend. Cost is $15 per person. Arrive a few minutes early. Sessions feature drawing from a nude or partially draped model in a traditional format, starting with one minute gesture drawings and working up to 20 minute poses. Chairs are provided; however, participants must furnish their own drawing materials. Bring a drawing board or easel; 11-by-14-inch or larger pad of paper is recommended. All mediums are fine to use. Details: Many cultures around the world have ancient languages written in pictures or symbols. Ogham is an ancient language also known as the ‘Celtic Tree Alphabet’ found in Ireland. Children celebrate the Emerald Isles (Ireland) by making their own Ogham. This simple craft uses craft sticks, pens, lined paper and a little imagination. Participants write their ABC’s on paper draw simple pictures or symbols for each letter. These are used to write short messages that can be decoded and shared.
