Gov. David Ige released $147,000 in capital improvement project funds this week for safety improvements to Mamalahoa Highway (Highway 190) between milepost 3.9 to milepost 6.9 in West Hawaii.

The additional three miles of safety improvements will occur on the stretch of highway that intersects with Old Saddle Road. The improvements include milled rumble strips in the centerline and shoulder, upgrades to the guardrail, and pavement signing and markings.

“This is a great step forward in making improvements to transportation infrastructure in our district,” said Rep. David Tarnas, a Democrat representing North and South Kohala and North Kona. “Transportation projects are at the top on my list of priorities this legislative session, as our needs are especially acute in our rural area.”
