Simplicio “Sam” Baldado, 90, of Hilo died Feb. 10 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hawaii, he was a retired power plant supervisor for Hawaii Electric Light Co. and U.S. Army Korean War veteran. Visitation 9-10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 28, at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Service at 10:30 a.m. Casual attire. Burial noon at East Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Survived by wife, Edna Baldado of Hilo; sons, Robert “Bobby” Glenn (Sheila) Baldado of Keaukaha and Dale Kainoa Baldado of Kihei, Maui; brothers, John (Shirley) Baldado of Kealakeua, Quentin (Rufina) Baldado, Jacob Keaweaheulu and James Baldado of Kalaoa Mauka; sisters, Maming (Stanley) Ho of Pearl City, Oahu, Christine Baldado of Kalaoa Mauka, Josephine (Joseph) Santillanes of New Mexico, Magdeline (Li Pabro) Baldado of Wainaku and Dorene Baldado of Keaukaha; two grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Clement Kehaulani Malani Sr., 92, of Hilo died Feb. 6. Born on April 30 in Laupahoehoe, he was in the Army Air National Guard, a heavy equipment operator, security guard, a kahu (pastor) at Laupahoehoe Congregational Church, sang in the Haili Church Choir and Haili Men’s Choir, and participated in the Alu Like Kupuna program and Onomea Rangers. Visitation 8-9 a.m. Monday, Feb. 24, at Laupahoehoe Congregational Church, 35-244 Kihalani Homestead Rd. in Laupahoehoe. Service at 9 a.m. Burial noon at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No 2 in Hilo. Survived by wife, Ruby Leilani Malani; son, Clement (Regina) Malani Jr.; daughters, Cynthia (Calvin) Malani, Catherine (Todd) Kaide and Carol Malani; six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins. Eldred Kalei Pe‘a, 75, of Hilo died Feb. 8 at home. Born in Hilo, he was a retired sausage maker for the former Miko Meats and continued sausage making after his retirement, member of the Keaukaha Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, board member of the Keaukaha Panaewa Farmer’s Association and classical guitarist. Visitation 8:30-9:30 a.m. Saturday (Feb. 22) at Hilo Stake Center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1373 Kilauea Ave. Funeral services at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Alae Cemetery, Mormon section. Casual attire. Alexander “Rooskie” “Oscar” Penovaroff Jr., 84, of Waimea died Dec. 20 at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born in Hilo, and was the owner of AP Water Supply/HIW Hawaii, a rancher, quarter horse breeder/trainer/competitor and expert horseman, and member of National Cutting Horse Association and American Quarter Horse Association. Visitation 8:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday (Feb. 22) at Mana Christian Ohana Church (formerly Kahilu Hall) in Waimea. Celebration of life ceremony at 10:30 a.m. Casual attire; no flowers. Survived by wife, Karoll K. Penovaroff of Waimea; sons, Vic “Tim” (Cholae) Penovaroff of Kona and David Febre of Honolulu; daughters, Marva (Ron) Ah Loy, Pier (Joey) Schutte and Tanya Penovaroff of Waimea, Kauilani Wilmington and Kaile Kay of Honolulu, Katherine Febre of San Francisco; 16 grandchildren and 39 great grandchildren; a niece and nephew. Belinda Isabella Kauwa “Yabu” Polido, 56, of Hilo died Dec. 14 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Pahala, she was a cashier and stock clerk for Kadota Liquor and Manono Mini Mart, mixer supervisor for the former Hilo Macaroni Factory and member of Pahala Door of Faith Church. Visitation 5-6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Memorial service/celebration of life at 6 p.m. Casual attire.
