James S. “Jimmy” Souza, 90, of Papaikou died Jan. 7 at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Hilo, he was a retired service and parts manager for the former Hilo Motors, member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, charter member and past president of South Hilo Rotary Club, charter member and first president of the Hawaii Island Portuguese Chamber of Commerce, member of Jaycees, Young Men’s Institute, Court Mauna Kea No. 8854 of the Ancient Order of Foresters, County of Hawaii Planning Commission, Hilo High School Class of 1947, and former Hawaii County councilman and during his tenure initiated the Hele-On Bus system.
