Simplicio “Sam” Baldado, 90, of Hilo died Feb. 10 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hawaii, he was a retired power plant supervisor for Hawaii Electric Light Co. and U.S. Army Korean War veteran. Visitation 9-10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 28, at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Service at 10:30 a.m. Casual attire. Burial noon at East Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Survived by wife, Edna Baldado of Hilo; sons, Robert “Bobby” Glenn (Sheila) Baldado of Keaukaha and Dale Kainoa Baldado of Kihei, Maui; brothers, John (Shirley) Baldado of Kealakeua, Quentin (Rufina) Baldado, Jacob Keaweaheulu and James Baldado of Kalaoa Mauka; sisters, Maming (Stanley) Ho of Pearl City, Oahu, Christine Baldado of Kalaoa Mauka, Josephine (Joseph) Santillanes of New Mexico, Magdeline (Li Pabro) Baldado of Wainaku and Dorene Baldado of Keaukaha; two grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Joan Yvonne King, 81, of Volcano died Feb. 3 at home. Born in Susanville, Calif., she was a psychiatric nurse at the The Queen’s Medical Center and Kona Community Hospital, homemaker, member of the Kinoole Baptist Church and American Volksmarching Association. Conrad Alohalani Nathaniel, 89, of Hilo died Feb. 7 at Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Care Center. Born in Hilo, he was a retired superintendent at Johnston Atoll, U.S. Army veteran during the Korean War, member of the Haili Congregational Church and choir and was affiliated with Hale Lokahi Big Island Learning & Arts Center. Visitation 9-10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 29, at Haili Congregational Church. Service at 10 a.m. Aloha attire. Burial to follow at Homelani Memorial Park, section 4. Luncheon to follow at Haili Congregational Church Gym. Survived by daughters, Sweetie (David) Osorio, Cherilynn (Robert) Barrett, Roquel (Kevin) Kahaloa, Corianne (Mark) Kennett and Lorielee (Scott) Guynes of Hawaii; brother, Thomas Nathaniel of California; 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; cousins, nieces and nephews. James S. “Jimmy” Souza, 90, of Papaikou died Jan. 7 at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Hilo, he was a retired service and parts manager for the former Hilo Motors, member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, charter member and past president of South Hilo Rotary Club, charter member and first president of the Hawaii Island Portuguese Chamber of Commerce, member of Jaycees, Young Men’s Institute, Court Mauna Kea No. 8854 of the Ancient Order of Foresters, County of Hawaii Planning Commission, Hilo High School Class of 1947, and former Hawaii County councilman and during his tenure initiated the Hele-On Bus system. Visitation 8:15-9:45 a.m. Saturday (Feb. 22) at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Papaikou. Mass at 10 a.m. Private burial to follow. Casual attire; no flowers. Loren Dale St. Clair, 88, of Kurtistown died Dec. 24 at home. Born in Orofino, Idaho, he was the owner of the former St. Clair Tree Service, member of Hilo Seventh-day Adventist Church and U.S. Army veteran.
