PAINT YOUR OWN SILK SCARF WITH PATTI PEASE JOHNSON

Details: Big Island artist and instructor Patti Pease Johnson teaches this workshop. With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, enrolling a loved one in this workshop makes a great gift! Or, you could create your own scarf and gift it for the special occasion. In this workshop, you’ll paint your own 8-inch x 53-inch scarf using three colors of your choice, which will create many more colors on the silk. Beginner and intermediate artists are welcome. Cost is $50/$45 for VAC members plus a $15 fee per person, inclusive of supplies. In the final hour, students will use hot wax with the tjanting tool on Habotai silk to outline your more representational design and create a resist line for the dyes. Then you will paint and mix colors on the 10-inch x 10-inch silk artwork.

Sessions feature drawing from a nude or partially draped model in a traditional format, starting with one minute gesture drawings and working up to 20 minute poses. Chairs are provided; however, participants must furnish their own drawing materials. Bring a drawing board or easel; 11-by-14-inch or larger pad of paper is recommended. All mediums are fine to use. If you wish to paint using traditional oils you must use a low odor, artist-grade solvent.

“FROM PAHOA WITH LAVA”
