The school records keep falling for UH-Hilo junior Allie Navarette, who scored 34 points and grabbed 19 rebounds in a 67-50 win over Holy Names Monday at Oakland.
Her 34 points tied Sheila Azevedo’s same output in 2006 and her 19 boards broke her previous mark by one when she had 18 rebounds against Notre Dame de Namur back in 2018, her freshman season.
Navarette also went 12 of 12 from the free throw line to break Hilary Hurley’s mark of 11 of 11 free throws set in 2012 against BYU-Hawaii.
Kim Schmelz added 14 points, and Mandi Kawaha had 12 points and eight assists for the Vulcans (8-13, 7-10 PacWest), who led 23-18 at halftime.
Navarette shot 10 of 16 from the field against the Hawks (1-20, 1-16), who lost their 10th straight.
Elle Burland and Gernice Martin scored 12 points each to lead the Hawks, who were outrebounded 37-30.
UHH was outscored 10-2 in the second quarter but outscored Holy Names 44-32 in the second half.
The Vulcans nailed 7 of 21 from 3-point range and made 20 of 23 free throws.
UHH continues its four-game road trip against Notre Dame de Namur at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
The Vuls remain in seventh place in the conference standings, three games back of Fresno Pacific.
Men
UHH 63, Holy Names 62: Kupaa Harrison hit a jump shot with five seconds left to lift the Vulcans to victory and snap a three-game losing streak.
The Hawks took a timeout, and Justin Chambers missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer.
Harrison scored 27 points on 12 of 19 shooting and grabbed nine rebounds, Elisha Duplechan added 11 points, and Sasa Vuksanovic had 10 points for the Vulcans (10-11, 8-9), who jumped to sixth place, the last spot in the conference tournament.
Zamaria Odom scored 17 points and Rob Fuller had 15 points for the Hawks (8-15, 6-11).
UHH took a 61-57 lead with 3:40 left on Isaiah Duplechan’s 3-pointer.
Anthony Dennis dunked to cut UHH’s lead to 61-59 with 2:49 left.
Then Isaiah Duplechan missed a 3-pointer. Holy Names failed on a jump shot, and Elisha Duplechan missed a jump shot with 2:33 remaining.
Cameron Finn missed a 3-pointer with 1:36 to go, and Elisha Duplechan snagged the rebound.
Harrison committed a turnover, and Justice De Corsi converted a layup to tie it 61-61 with 1:08 left.
De Corsi made 1 of 2 from the free throw line to push Holy Names ahead 62-61 with 1:08 remaining.
Justin Chambers got a steal with 39 seconds to play, but Elisha Duplechan fouled Fuller, who missed two free throws.
Isaiah Duplechan collected the rebound with 24 seconds left before Harrison drained his game-winner.
It’s the second time Harrison stuck a late-minute shot against Holy Names.
On Jan. 28, Harrison hit a step-back 3-pointer with one second left in overtime for a 79-76 win.
It was the first road win of the season for the Vuls.
Of Harrison’s 27 points, 21 came in the first half, which the Hawks led 31-29.
