William Benjamin Cabus, 78, of Pahoa died Jan. 5 at home. Born in Hilo, he was a retired Hawaii Army National Guard sergeant who previously served in the Hawaii Air National Guard. Services at a later date. Survived by wife, Estela N. Cabus of Pahoa; daughters, ChryleCQ Cabus and Georgianna (Steven) Chock of Kauai; sons, Carl Joseph (Cheri) Cabus of Kauai, Armando (Sandra) Espinoza of Arizona and Gilbert (Samantha) C. Nava of California; sister, Maggie Tremaine of Kauai; 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Arrangements by Dodo Mortuary.

Earl Kekoa Kaina, 47, of Kailua-Kona died Nov. 26 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Wahiawa, Oahu, he was a mason. Celebration of life noon to sunset Saturday (Jan. 25) at Honaunau Beach. Survived by life partner, Spring Brooks; son, Malakhi Brooks-Kaina of Kailua-Kona; mother, Mary (Stephen) Albrecht of Kailua Kona; father, Charles Kaina of Honolulu; brothers, Daniel Kaina and Jeff Kaina of Kailua-Kona; sister, Shannon Kaina of Ocean View; hanai parents, Terry and Clara Brooks of Captain Cook; hanai sister, Natasha Terazono of Captain Cook; nieces and nephews. Fumio Maedo, 85, of College Station, Texas, formerly of Hilo, died Dec.19 at home. Born in Hilo, he was a retired compositor for the Hawaii Tribune-Herald and Hilo High School Class of 1952 alum. Elizabeth “Loha” Leialoha Viernes, 78, of Waimea, died Jan. 14 at home. Born in Honolulu, she was a delivery driver for Duty Free Hawaii, school bus driver and owner operator of the former Aloha Shave Ice in Nanakuli, Oahu.
