Dr. Michelle Mitchell, M.D., has been practicing family medicine in Hawaii for more than 11 years and now she is sounding the alarm about the severe physician shortage in Hawaii.

At 7 p.m. on Jan. 30, at the University of Hawaii at Hilo, room UCB 100, Mitchell will discuss its causes, such as insurance rules and practices — highlighting the issues surrounding insurance reimbursements and the administrative burdens that lead to physician burnout.

Leading the discussion following Dr. Mitchell’s talk will be UH-Hilo sociologist, Dr. Lindy Hern.
