Police say a 66-year-old Kailua-Kona man is in critical condition at The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu after a moped crash Saturday in Kailua-Kona.

The man’s name hasn’t been released.

Officers responding to a 2:41 p.m. call determined a white 2019 Honda Ruckus moped heading west had pulled out of a parking lot onto Kaiwi Street and lost control.

The man was ejected onto the roadway and suffered severe head injuries.

The man wasn’t wearing a helmet and police think speed and alcohol were factors in the crash.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call the Kona Traffic Enforcement Unit at 326-4646 ext. 229 or Crime Stoppers at 961-8300.
