Police have charged a 21-year-old Mountain View man with numerous offenses stemming from an incident last month in Puna that led to an officer-involved shooting.

According to a police statement, Jaggar Dunne-Torres has been charged with attempted first- and second-degree murder, second-degree property damage, resisting an order to stop a motor vehicle and driving without a license.

His bail is set at $158,000.

The charges stem from a Nov. 19 incident in Glenwood where two Hilo Special Enforcement Unit officers conducting surveillance on a residence saw a multi-colored Honda sedan commit a traffic violation and pull into the driveway, police said.

Officers attempted to contact the officers of the Honda, but the driver of the car immediately reversed, then accelerated toward one of the officers who was standing outside the passenger side of unmarked police vehicle. The officer managed to evade the sedan, police said, but the car struck the unmarked vehicle’s open passenger door and scraped along the entire passenger side.

The other officer discharged his service weapon at the Honda as it left the area, according to police.

Dunne-Torres was arrested Sunday in Volcano on other matters, along with Tearon Pacheco-Fernandez and another individual. Pacheco-Fernandez is facing charges stemming from an officer-involved shooting in the KTA Super Stores Puainako parking lot in Hilo the day before Thanksgiving.

Police are asking anyone who may have information regarding either incident to call the police non-emergency number at 935-3311 or Crime Stoppers at 961-8300.
