The Hilo High senior defensive back was a survivor Saturday night, playing on an island in man-to-man coverage against one of Leilehua’s best receivers and thriving.

The Vikings committed five turnovers, but Deperalta came up with an interception in the end zone to help give the Mules the boot in a 19-9 victory that lifted Hilo to the HHSAA Division I championship game.
