P&R track meets on tap
The Department of Parks and Recreation will be hosting its annual track and field meets for ages 6-14 years.
The first age group meets are Feb. 8 at Waiakea High’s Ken Yamase Memorial Stadium and Konawaena High School, and the two schools also will host exponent meets Feb. 22.
Field events start at 9 a.m., and track events will begin at approximately 10:30 a.m.
Schools, clubs or individuals interested in participating in any of the meets should contact Darrell Yamamoto at 961-8735 or 938-2012.
Hilo seeks volleyball coach
Hilo High School is accepting applications for a boys volleyball head coach for the 2020 spring season.
All interested applicants can pick up application packet at Hilo High Schools main office or gym office.
The deadline to apply is Nov. 29.

Holes-in-one
Alvin Okamoto aced the 124-yard No. 3 hole Saturday at Volcano Country Club using a pitching wedge.

• Playing with AFGC Golf Club, Tevita Duituturaga aced the 151-yard third hole in October at Hilo Municipal Golf Course using a 5-iron.

Setting the record straight
The Wayne Joseph Memorial Turkey Trot 5K will be held Nov. 28.
Runners can register before the run at 7:30 a.m., in the parking lot area at Coconut Island, but it makes for a smoother start if entrants preregister at www.webscorer.com/register?raceid=191760.
An incorrect date was listed in the Nov. 15 edition.
Race director Bob Wedemann will have room for 300 entrants with bibs — “I’m hoping we run out of them,” he said — and reminds that checks made out of the food pantry, will be accepted at the race site.
