Two students from the Big Island joined more than 1,600 undergraduates from around the world beginning their academic careers this fall at Tufts University in Medford/Somerville, Mass.

The university’s class of 2023 includes Hayden Virtue of Hawi and Maya Rosof of Keaau.

The two Big Island scholars join a class with many distinctions. For the first time in Tufts history, women enrolled in the School of Engineering make up more than 50% of the class. The School of the Museum of Fine Arts also set new enrollment records, with 70 students pursuing a bachelor of fine arts, plus another 48 in the five-year SMFA at Tufts combined degree program.
