Police assigned to the Thirty Meter Telescope protester blockade and encampment on Maunakea Access Road issued 358 traffic citations and arrested two suspects on Daniel K. Inouye Highway for six offenses from the period between Oct. 31-Nov. 6, police said Thursday.
The 358 citations were categorized as follows: speeding, 163; excessive speeding (30 mph or more over speed limit), one; seat-belt violations, 38; child-restraint violations, three; illegal use of cellphone or electronic device, two; excessive tint on windshields/windows, six; driving without a license, 10; driving without insurance, 15; unsafe vehicle, nine; other moving violations, eight; no license plate, eight; regulatory violations, 95.
No parking tickets were issued, police said.
The arrested offenses were one for driving without insurance and five for contempt of court or failure to appear.
The combined total of the 12-week-long Daniel K. Inouye Highway enhanced traffic enforcement efforts, which began on Aug. 15, stands at 6,273 citations issued and 60 people arrested for 110 offenses.
The stepped-up enforcement will continue for the duration of the ongoing protest for public safety, police said.
