Yes, Rocky fans, the Palace Theater will be rockin’ with Tim Curry as Dr. Frank-N-Furter at 9 p.m. Oct. 31 for the 10th annual showing. The fun will begin when the doors open at 7:30 p.m. with selfies in the lobby with Riff Raff and sign-ups for the annual costume contest.
“We’re pleased to announce the return of “Lady Lily LaDouce,” aka Justine Thompson, who just recently starred in the role of Mazeppa in the Palace Theater’s 18th annual Fall Musical “Gypsy!” “Lady Lily has appeared on our stage numerous times in live burlesque shows produced by herself and others. Her preshow antics keep the crowd howling with cat calls and laughter.”
There will be plenty to do and see for all attendees, including those dubbed as “Rocky Virgins” (those folks who have never attended a live showing of the film). Selfies, costume contest (costumes do not have to be Rocky related), “Time-Warp” dance practice and contest awards all keep the antics going strong.
“Don’t forget to pick up your participation kit,” said Marcia Prose, Palace Theater marketing director. “This is not a movie where you just sit in the audience and politely watch the film. People shout out (often rude!) comments to the actors on the screen. Characters Janet and Brad have their own special shout-outs which will not be mentioned here. Pick up your participation kit for only $5 in the lobby prior to the show. Inside you’ll find many of the items you need to ‘participate’…. cards and toilet paper end rolls to throw on cue, a party hat to celebrate with Dr. Frank-N-Furter and more. To you Rocky ‘veterans,’ please do not bring water pistols, rice or toast,” said Prose.
“There is a plot line,” said Phillips Payson, Palace Theater chief operations officer. “But it may be hard to follow with all the fun going on. On a dark and stormy night, a newly engaged couple’s car breaks down near a castle. Seeking a telephone to call for help, they find the castle is occupied by strangers in elaborate costumes celebrating an annual convention. Seduced separately by the head of the house Dr. Frank-N-Furter, who leads them through a night of bizarre high jinks, kinks, and dance numbers. Critically panned at its release, ‘Rocky Horror’ found its home at midnight showings with dedicated fans returning again and again to watch and participate in the show.”
The film is rated R, so those under 17 will need to be accompanied by an adult.
This will be the 10th time the Palace has presented this 44-year-old film.
Tickets are $12 in advance or for those in costume, and $15 at the door. This raucous screening has been a sellout numerous times, so advance tickets are recommended. They are available at the Palace box office, over the phone at 934-7010 and online at hilopalace.com.
