Police in place to monitor the TMT protester blockade and encampment on Maunakea Access Road issued 401 traffic citations and arrested two suspects for six offenses in the week of Oct. 10-16.
That brings the total of citations to 5,033 with 48 people arrested for 80 offenses in the nine-week period since the enhanced enforcement efforts on Daniel K. Inouye Highway (Route 200) near the protest site began on Aug. 15.
The 401 citations issued during the past week are as follows: speeding, 212; excessive speeding, 30 mph over limit or more, one; seatbelt violations, 13; child restraint violations, two; cellular phone or electronic device use while driving, eight; excessive windshield and/or window tinting, 11; driving without a license, 11; driving without insurance 14; unsafe vehicle, 15; other moving violation, 16; no license plate, 10; and regulatory violations, 88.
There were no parking citations issued, police said.
The offenses the two arrested were booked for are: probation revocation warrants, three; plus DUI, driving after license suspended or revoked, and contempt of court or failure to appear, one each.
Police say the stepped-up effort will continue for the duration of the ongoing protest situation in the interest of public safety.
