James Edward Farias, 80, of Hilo died Oct. 15 at Hale Ho‘ola Hamakua in Honokaa. Born in Pepeekeo, he was a land surveyor and member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Visitation 9-10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Mass at 10:30 a.m. Casual attire. Burial to follow at Homelani Memorial Park. Survived by sisters, Flora Temporal of Hilo and Rose M. (Felipe) Resurrecion of Volcano; brother, Joseph (Alice) Farias of Hilo; nieces, nephews and cousins. Arrangements by Dodo Mortuary.

Annie “Ann” Laura Hulama, 88, of Hilo died Sept. 23 at home. Born in Mountain View, she was a former bartender and member of the Salvation Army Hilo Temple Corps. Visitation 5-9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Wake service at 6 p.m. Visitation again 9-10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, at the mortuary. Funeral service at 10 a.m. Burial 12:15 p.m. at Alae Cemetery, Section H. Casual attire. Survived by sons, Mike (Kaoi) Hulama Sr., Gerard “Bush” (Nova) Hulama Sr., Jesse (Debbie) Hulama Sr. and Stanford “Puggy” (Linda) Hulama Sr.; daughters, Rowena (Ronald) Silva, Joanne “Joey” Hulama and Faye (Terrance Chong Tim) Williams; daughter-in-law, Barbara Hulama; 20 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins. Michael Shinsky, 69, of Honokaa died Oct 8. Burial service 12:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, at Alae Cemetery. Norbert Anthony Serrao Sr., 82, of Pahoa died Oct. 12 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was a retired pipe fitter for the county Department of Water Supply and member of Pahoa Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Visitation 4-6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, at Dodo Mortuary Chapel.
