Charles A. Van Gieson, 80, of Vancouver, Wash., died Sept. 8 in Vancouver. Born in Keaukaha, he retired from Johnson Brothers of Hawaii and the U.S. Army Reserve, was a 1958 graduate of Kamehameha Schools Kapalama and member of several fraternal lodges, including Excelsior Lodge No. 1 Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Harmony Lodge No. 3, Pacific Rebekah Lodge No. 1, Canton Kamehameha 1, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks and Knights of Pythias. Born in Olaa, he was a retired foreman for the state Department of Land and Natural Resources Forestry Division, Gaspro employee, U.S. Army veteran during the Korean War and life member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 9.
