Santos Cabison Sr., 86, of Hilo died Sept. 29 at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Waialua, Oahu, he was a retired county maintenance worker, member of United Public Workers and U.S. Army veteran during the Korean War. Visitation 5-6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Prayer service at 6 p.m. Casual attire; flowers and lei welcome. Graveside service with military honors noon Thursday, Oct. 17, at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. James “Jay” David Gardner Jr., 58, of Holualoa died July 27 at home. Born in Lincoln, Neb., he was a delivery driver for Napa Auto Parts, worked in the Kona Costco food court, was an assistant manager for McDonald’s, a caregiver at North Bend Nursing Home in Washington state, U.S. Army medic, avid reader and golfer and member of the Lutheran Church of the Holy Trinity. Memorial service 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at Lutheran Church of the Holy Trinity in Kailua-Kona. Casual attire; no flowers. Memorial donations to Lutheran Church of the Holy Trinity property fund. Monica Leilani “Moose Smith” Keahilihau, 56, of Hilo died Oct. 1 at Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Care Center. She was born in Hilo. Hiroko Abe Rances, 85, of Hilo, formerly of Seattle, died Sept. 28 at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Hiroshima, Japan, she was a housewife and seamstress. Private services held. Survived by brother-in-law, Dominador (Julia) Rances of Hawaii; sisters-in-law, Erlinda Rances, Shirley LaForge and Florida (Anthony) Andaya of the Philippines; family members in Japan; nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Visitation for the late John August Cardoza is 8-9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Laupahoehoe.
