The U.S. Postal Service has acknowledged recent disruptions in mail service in the Hilo area and is currently in the process of remedying them.

Several residents around the Hilo area have reported multiple cases of mail being delivered very late in the day, sometimes well into the evening. One resident wrote in a letter to the Tribune-Herald that the delays were caused by planes transporting the mail arriving late.

Duke Gonzales, spokesman for the Postal Service in Hawaii, confirmed in an email that the delays are the result of “transportation-related logistic challenges” at the Hilo Post Office.

“We are in the process of resolving those challenges and will provide the necessary support to our Hilo mail delivery operation to prevent future customer service issues,” Gonzales continued.
