A 22-year-old Puna woman repeatedly punched a 52-year-old Laupahoehoe woman in the head and face and stole the woman’s car, plus the personal property inside the vehicle, according to court documents filed by police.

The incident occurred Aug. 30 in the parking lot of Honokaa Elementary School. The Laupahoehoe woman told officers she was trying to help a woman in distress when the robbery and assault occurred, police said.

The alleged victim identified Jadelin Pualani Grammer from a photographic lineup, documents state.

A tip led police to a Hibiscus Street home in the Fern Acres subdivision, and Grammer was arrested the following day and charged with strong-arm robbery, auto theft, methamphetamine possession, drug paraphernalia, two counts of theft of credit card and four counts of unauthorized possession of personal information.

When the offenses allegedly occurred Grammer was free on court-supervised release without cash bail pending sentencing after pleading guilty to charges including auto theft, assault on a police officer, drug possession and firearms charges. She is due back in court on those charges Sept. 19 before Hilo Circuit Judge Henry Nakamoto, although court records indicate that court date is for “further proceedings” and not sentencing.

“Getting her back into custody quickly prevented a potential crime spree in the making. We want to thank the public for helping us track her down,” said police Sgt. James Correia.

Grammer made her initial court appearance on the more recent charges Tuesday.

During the hearing, Donald Wilkerson, Grammer’s court-appointed attorney, requested Grammer again be released on court supervision without cash bail, with Deputy Prosecutor Lucas Burns objecting to the motion.

Hilo District Judge Bruce Larson denied the defense motion, maintained Grammer’s bail at $107,000 and ordered her to appear today in Hamakua District Court in Waimea for a preliminary hearing.

She remains in custody at Hawaii Community Correctional Center
