The county Department of Public Works said Wednesday the traffic signal light on Alii Drive at the entrance to Keauhou Shopping Center in Kona will be adjusted for timing and phasing between 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesday, weather permitting.

According to a statement, the work is “an effort to improve pedestrian safety.”

Pedestrians will be able to use the crosswalk on the makai side of Alii Drive unimpeded by traffic, while motorists will have a red light.

A special-duty police officer will be on site for traffic control while the work is being done and drivers and pedestrians are advised to be mindful of the situation and to proceed cautiously.
