The Night Market at Uncle Robert’s Awa Bar and Farmers Market will return tonight after a one-week shutdown.

The event will be held as usual from 5 to 10 p.m. tonight in Kalapana after shutting down last week due to inappropriate behavior from attendees, such as drug use and underage drinking.

Kalapana resident Ikaika Marzo, who is family with the organizers of the Night Market, said Uncle Robert’s has implemented better lighting and hired more security in order to prevent illicit activities.

However, Marzo said the return of the Night Market this week may not be permanent.

“If there’s still problems, we might still have to shut down next week,” Marzo said.

The event, which has taken place each Wednesday for years, attracts hundreds of visitors and dozens of vendors.
