Casting is complete and rehearsal is underway for the next production at Aloha Theatre.

”Beyond Therapy” is a 1983 comedy by Christopher Durang. The show is a send-up of the therapy industry and a satirical examination of the dating process.

The show was first produced at the Phoenix Theatre in New York City, starring Stephen Collins and Sigourney Weaver. It later played on Broadway at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre, starring John Lithgow and Dianne Wiest.

Aloha Theatre’s production of “Beyond Therapy” is slated for 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2:30 p.m. Sundasy from Sept. 27-Oct. 13 at the theater in Kainaliu.

Bruce, played by Robb Dahlke, runs a personal ad, which Prudence, played by Sara Hagen, answers. Bruce is in therapy with Charlotte, played by Robin O’Hara, and Prudence is in therapy with Stuart, played by Quinton Loder.

Both therapists offer controversial treatment regimens. Bruce has a male lover, Bob, played by Xavier Chung, which complicates everything. They all meet up at a restaurant, where the service is notoriously slow. Finally, a feisty waiter, portrayed by Gerald Lucena, shows up and helps the dysfunctional group find closure.

Jerry Tracy is directing the production, assisted by Kerry Matsumoto and Tiana Yeaman-Clifford. Tiffany Kutsunai and John Holliday are producers, and other team members include Lucena, set designer; Martha Stephens, props designer; and Debbie Rauhe, costume designer.

Tickets range from $12-$25 and are available online at AlohaTheatre.com, by calling 731-7437 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday or at the box office beginning one hour prior to performance times.
