Police released a 26-year-old Pohoiki man who had been arrested in the apparent beating death of his uncle.
Hawaii Police Department spokesman Alan Richmond said Wednesday that Daryl Peneaux was released from custody pending further investigation. Peneaux was arrested early Monday morning on suspicion of attempted murder after the body of his 38-year-old uncle, Reginald “Reggie” Little Brave was found in the middle of Highway 137 between Pohoiki and MacKenzie State Recreation Area.
According to police, Peneaux had admitted to having a physical altercation with his uncle prior to the discovery of Little Brave’s body.
The law requires police to either charge a suspect within 48 hours of arrest or to release the individual. Peneaux could still be charged in connection with the death, but if that were to happen, it would likely be done by grand jury indictment.
An autopsy was scheduled and the investigation into Little Brave’s death continues.
