Police are seeking the public’s help in identifying a suspect who allegedly stole $115 from a high schooler’s wallet at a retail store on Makala Boulevard in Kailua-Kona.

According to police, the young man took out his wallet to see if he had enough money to cover his back-to-school purchases, then put his wallet on a shelf in the electronics section of the store and walked away from the wallet not realizing he had left it on the shelf.

When he returned to collect his wallet, he discovered that the money inside had been taken and the wallet put back in place.

Police say they obtained video surveillance footage showing the theft. Anyone who knows the identity of the suspect in the photo or the woman he was seen leaving the store with are asked to call the police non-emergency line at 935-3311 or Crime Stoppers at 961-8300.
