Kanno paces Hawaii

Hilo’s Isaiah Kanno finished tied for 22nd overall in leading Hawaii to an 11th place finish at the Junior America’s Cup in Edmonton, Alberta.

Kanno closed with a 5-over 76 on Thursday and was 8-over for 54 holes.

Scores rose in the final round.

Washington’s Ian Siebers (75) claimed medalist honors at 6-under, while Utah closed strong in the field of 18 to tie San Diego atop the leader board at 4-over.

Hawaii was 34-over.

Oahu’s Blaze Akana (79) was 14-over in a tie for 39th, Noah Kashi (76, 18-over) tied for 48th and Joshua Hayashida was 25-over after an 89 left him 25-over.

The Girls Junior America’s Cup tees off Tuesday. Hilo’s Lacey Uchida and Kailua-Kona’s Yoonjeong Huh will represent Hawaii.

Hilo seeks coaches

Hilo High School is accepting applications for a softball head coach and a head boys tennis coach.

Any interested applicants can pick up forms at the school’s main office, and the deadline to apply is Aug. 16.
