Look no farther. Hilo Betsuin Buddhist Women’s Association has you covered.
The BWA is hosting its 2019 Garage Sale from 7-11:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, at Sangha Hall in downtown Hilo.
Annually, the Buddhist women of Hilo Hongwanji sponsors the largest garage sale in Hilo, and every year the event is blessed with truckloads of donated items that are generously donated by church members and friends.
The sale will feature kitchenware, including Japanese bowls, plates, platters and lacquer ware; small appliances; knick-knacks; books; toys; games; framed and unframed art; household goods; clothes for everyone; fabric; purses; jewelry; and many other treasures, all to be sold at very reasonable prices.
There also will be limited craft items made by many talented BWA members and plants on sale.
Come early for the best selection.
Free admission and ample parking.
The sale is the largest project for the BWA and enables the organization to make substantial monetary contributions toward minor and major projects at the Hilo Betsuin.
In the community, the BWA donates wheelchair bags and lap blankets sewn by BWA members to Hale Anuenue, Life Care Center, Legacy Hilo and Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Care Center. The organization also volunteers at the Peanut Butter Ministry, Blood Bank of Hawaii and Project Dana.
The BWA’s lifelong dedication to living the Dharma has extended far beyond the kitchen and temple into the larger community. Formerly known as Hilo Hongwanji Fujinkai, the name was changed to Hilo Hongwanji Buddhist Women’s Association in 2004.
