WAILUKU, Maui — Police arrested a man they say might have been responsible for a wildfire that cost Maui County up to $400,000.
Holden Bingham, 28, was arrested Monday on suspicion of first-degree arson and unauthorized control of a propelled motor vehicle.
Police say Bingham was released pending further investigation, but is being detained on unrelated arrest warrants.
Officials say the fire is completely contained but burned 14 square miles.
Officials say the fire across Central Maui and north Kihei that began the morning of July 11 burned land mostly owned by farming company Mahi Pono.
Officials say a second fire in the Kahului area that Friday burned less than a square mile.
