Police say a body was found off Bayfront Highway in Hilo Thursday morning.

Officers responded at about 11:45 a.m. after receiving a report of an unresponsive woman in a black, late-model sport-utility vehicle parked on the gravel shoulder near Mooheau Park Bandstand.

Detectives from Hilo Criminal Investigation Section responded and are continuing the investigation, currently classified as a Coroner’s Inquest.

An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday to determine the exact cause of death. The woman’s name is being withheld pending notification to the next of kin.

Anyone who may have seen the vehicle parked on Bayfront Highway or may have additional information is asked to call the police non-emergency line at 935-3311 or Crime Stoppers at 961-8300.
