The state Department of Health extended the period for public comment on the Thirty Meter Telescope’s National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit.

The National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System will provide conditions to safely manage storm water during construction activity. Storm water would be discharged in Kemole Gulch, Kuupahaa Gulch, Puupohakuloa Gulch, Pohakuloa Gulch and the Wailuku River.

Because of technical issues, the DOH was previously unable to receive public comment by email. The deadline for public comment was therefore extended to 4:30 p.m. July 9.

Public comments can be submitted to cleanwaterbranch@doh.hawaii.gov.
