The Kahilu Youth Troupe production of “West Side Story” is slated for 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, June 21-22, and 4 p.m. Sunday, June 23, at Kahilu Theatre in Waimea.

A collaboration between Beth Dunnington and Angel Prince, the show features 35 cast members, 20 musicians and 10 technical crew members. The production will extend the youth troupe’s students singing, acting and dancing horizons in this brilliant and relevant musical with a book by Arthur Laurents, music by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, as well as modified original choreography by Jerome Robbins.

“West Side Story” is an inspired tale of young love and idealism, enchanting audiences with music and lyrics so embedded in American musical theatre history that many who see the show will sing along with every word.

Many troupe members in this production got their start in the Kahilu Performing Arts Camps, which is now open for registration. There are four camps available this year and all offer a variety of performance-based learning. Each camp culminates with a final performance for family and friends.
