Evelyn Haleakala Kuahiwi Nani ‘O Maui Chong-Martin, 82, of Ocean View died June 6 at home. Born in Waimea, she was a retired project outreach coordinator for Alu Like and a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Ka‘u ward. Survived by husband, Merle Martin of Ocean View; daughters, Dawn Moana DeLeon of Ka‘u and Laura Meilan Sharpe of Waimea; sons, Charles K. Sharpe of Ka‘u, Gordon K. (Onaona Trask) Sharpe of Olaa and David K. Sharpe of Ka‘u; sisters, Daisy Ikeuchi and Irene Kaneo of Honokaa, Winona Tanaka of Hilo and Roseline Ho of Papakolea, Oahu; 14 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins. Simon Joseph, 45, of Ocean View died June 2 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Ujelang, Marshall Islands, he was a coffee farmer. Graveside services and burial 4 p.m. Saturday (June 22) at Naalehu County Cemetery. Survived by wife, Kiman Jieta of Ocean View; sons, Kun Mongkeya, Keleb Joseph and Joseph Joseph of Ocean View; daughters, Marysho Joseph, Karen Joseph and Sharon Joseph of Ocean View; mother, Marysho Joseph of Ocean View; brothers, Levi (Chiana) Mongkeya of Kailua-Kona, Lekiak Mongkeya of Arkansas, Komiso Mongkeya of Marshall Islands and Mark Mongekeya of Ocean View; sisters, Kieko (Elio) Mongkeya of Ocean View, Karmarina (Bunty) Mongkeya of Arkansas, Kathysho (Dave) Mongkeya, Kalynn (Felix) Mongkeya and Diana (Jeffrey) Mongkeya of Kailua-Kona; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Rangihekeiho “Kahu” Ruwhiu, 80, died June 1 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Wharekahika, Aotearoa (New Zealand) he was a retired lomi-lomi massage master and teacher, master carpenter, lifelong cultural practitioner and founding member of Aloha Aina Life and Education Center, Opu Alii Center for Huna Sciences, Mauna Kea Anaina Hou and Native American Church of Hawaii. He was also a chief in the Royal Order of Kamehameha, which will host his celebration of life, 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Wednesday (June 19) at Kamehameha Hall in Keaukaha. Survived by daughter, Moana Ruwhiu of California; son, Jon Ruwhiu of California; a nephew and other ‘ohana in New Zealand. Arrangements by Dodo Mortuary.
