Discuss the quandary of self-care

Ku‘ikahi Mediation Center continues its “Finding Solutions, Growing Peace” Brown Bag Lunch Series from noon-1 p.m. June 20 with a discussion by Lindsey Miller on the topic “The Quandary of Self-Care: Taking Care of Self to Help Others.”

The free monthly talk-story sessions are hosted at the county Office of the Prosecuting Attorney, 655 Kilauea Ave., in Hilo.

“In our culture of extroverts and outward appearances, it’s important to take good care of ourselves in order to feel grounded and peaceful in our bodies and spirits,” says Miller. “Focusing on ourselves and what we need in the day-to-day moment is often the best way to take care of others.”

In this interactive talk, learn simple self-care ideas and mindfulness techniques such as breathing and setting intentions.

Miller, who lives in Naalehu, has a bachelor of arts degree in sociology with a minor in dance. She has taught yoga, offering yoga retreats and leading yoga teacher trainings and Thai massage trainings for 20 years. She currently works as a case manager for PARENTS Inc. and is working toward a master’s degree in counseling with a focus in trauma.

The talk is open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own lunch, enjoy an informal and educational talk-story session and meet others interested in “Finding Solutions, Growing Peace.”
