Impeach them

A recent Tribune-Herald letter writer criticized Sen. Mazie Hirono’s characterization of Attorney General William Barr as being a liar. That writer is badly misinformed.

In 1989, Barr lied under oath to the U.S. Senate about a nonexistent Justice Department memo. He should have been disbarred and prosecuted then. Instead, he went on to become George H.W. Bush’s attorney general, where he recommended and got pardons for many key witnesses in the Iran-Contra investigation. He thereby destroyed the government’s case.

President Donald Trump has now appointed Barr to be his attorney general. As such, he has begun acting as Trump’s new “fixer” and personal lawyer.

Barr said special counsel Robert Mueller did not take the Office of Legal Counsel’s guidelines into consideration when he declined to prosecute Trump, but Mueller said just the opposite in his report.

And during a Senate hearing last month, Barr lied and said he didn’t know if Mueller supported Barr’s conclusion — except Mueller sent Barr a letter weeks earlier saying Barr’s four-page summary letter did not “fully capture the context, nature and substance” of the investigation and its conclusions.

Now Trump decided to declassify all intelligence regarding Russia’s meddling in the 2016 U.S. election and authorized Barr to do an investigation of the investigation. Expect U.S. counterintelligence sources to be exposed as they were in the Iraq War/Valerie Plame case. Expect a cherry-picked and false conclusion similar to Barr’s other work. And expect efforts to protect our next election to be undermined.

Barr and Trump have to be impeached. They literally are a threat to our democracy. Call Rep. Tulsi Gabbard and urge her to support an impeachment inquiry.

A rousing success

I would like to send a huge round of applause to the performers of Center Stage Dance Studio and the Anuenue Children’s Chorus and Glee Club for their outstanding production of “Aladdin Jr.”

My family and I were absolutely blown away by the incredible talent. The young actors, singers and dancers did such an amazing job!

We had such a wonderful and entertaining experience and are looking forward to future performances.
